The View cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin has opened up about the âsomewhat traumaticâ birth experience of her first baby, Justin, following a two-month maternity leave from the Hot Topics table.
Hours after reclaiming her seat on the panel, the 36-year-old Republican commentator and former Donald Trump White House staffer joined View producer Brian Teta on the showâs companion podcast Behind the Table, where she explained why she was back on the program following a relatively short maternity leave.
âThis was your call, I want to be clear about that,â Teta told her. âIt was,â Griffin confirmed. âTo me, it ended up feeling perfect,â the cohost explained, adding that, âBecause the timing that our show tapes, Iâm able to leave midafternoon and be home to my baby.â
âI had to be induced, I started having an issue thatâs hard to explain, but he came a few days early,â Griffin told Teta. The process of jumpstarting her labor contractions left Griffin vomiting for âeight hours,â and after delivery, a new issue arose.
âOnce he was born, my placenta got stuck, so I started to hemorrhage. Itâs in that moment where, four hours of active labor, youâre finally holding your child, itâs the most magical thing,â Griffin remembered. Before she was taken to the operating room, she said she realized something.
âIn that moment where they handed him to me, I looked at my husband and everything flashed before my eyes: The two years of IVF, the money, the toll on my body, the hormones, the screaming at my husband â you get a different version of your spouse when theyâre going through all of that,â Griffin said.
As she told Teta, her husband being by her side during both the IVF process and âa really scary final stretch of laborâ solidified the name she chose for her first child: âI was like, this is Justin, this is somebody I can only hope is going to be a kind, decent, humble, amazing man like my husband, And it just fit.â
Griffin has long been open about her IVF journey, revealing on a 2024 installment of The View that cohosts Sara Haines and Sunny Hostin helped her through the challenging process.

âMy husband and I have been hoping, trying to get pregnant for about a year and a half, and it wasnât happening naturally, so we made the decision to move forward with IVF. This is my second cycle, so, tomorrow I will be in the doctorâs office dealing with that,â Griffin told Teta at the time. âI wanted to share it for a couple of reasons. I had no idea at my age how hard this actually would be. Iâm only 35 and, to me, I was like, Iâve got plenty of time, this wonât be that difficult. Iâm healthy, I work out, I eat right. My body was just not cooperating.â
