Savannah Guthrie Shares Reaction to Seeing Person in Doorbell Camera Footage at Mom Nancy’s Home

Savannah Guthrie called the release of footage showing an armed and masked man outside of Nancy Guthrie’s house on the night she disappeared “terrifying.”

Ten days after Nancy was reported missing on Feb. 1, the FBI released recovered doorbell camera footage from the house. In the videos, an armed and masked man, who the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department are still working to identify via tips and mixed DNA found at the property, approaches the front door before appearing to tamper with the camera.

“It’s just absolutely terrifying,” Savannah said of seeing the footage for the first time. “And I can’t imagine that is who she saw standing over her bed. I can’t.”

The day after Nancy was reported missing, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said authorities believe the 84-year-old was abducted from the house.

Savannah said it’s “unbearable” to think about what happened to her.

“I wake up every night in the middle of the night,” Savannah said. “And in the darkness, I imagine her terror. And it is unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought.”

Speaking to Hoda Kotb, Savannah also expressed her gratitude that the doorbell camera footage was able to be recovered at all. FBI Director Kash Patel said Feb. 10 that the bureau and the sheriff’s department worked with “private sector partners” to recover the content. The FBI and the sheriff’s department reported previously on Feb. 6 that the doorbell camera “disconnected” at around 1:47 a.m. on the night she disappeared.

“I’m glad and grateful to the investigators and the technology companies that were able to find that video to, I hope, at least with people of good heart and compassion, stop the irresponsible and cruel speculation that had started to swirl,” Savannah said.

“I’m glad that people saw what came to our door,” she added.
