Savannah Guthrie Opens Up About Heartbreaking Struggle After Her Mother’s Abduction

In an emotional new interview, Today host Savannah Guthrie shared her profound pain and the difficult reality she faces after her mother Nancy was abducted from her Tucson home on February 1. The 84-year-old has been missing for nearly two months, and as the investigation continues with no suspects, Savannah is struggling to balance her public life and personal heartbreak.

“I look out the window of the airplane and just think, ‘Where are you?’” Savannah admitted through tears as she spoke with Hoda Kotb during the first part of a two-part interview on Today.

One of the most painful aspects of this ordeal has been navigating the situation with her two children, daughter Vale (11) and son Charley (9). Vale, deeply impacted by her grandmother’s disappearance, constantly asks, “Mama, any leads? Any hope?” Savannah described how difficult it is to protect her children while giving them the emotional space they need to grieve.

“We try to give them a little more certainty than we have, to let them grieve,” Savannah said. But, the pain is all-consuming for the family, especially for her sister Annie, who lives just minutes away from Nancy in Tucson and was close to their mother.

As Savannah opens up about the complexities of family life during such a trying time, she shares that returning to New York was a gut-wrenching decision. “There’s just a way in which this is even so much harder on Annie and Tommy and Olmo because they’re there,” Savannah reflected.

The former childhood home where Nancy was taken has become a focal point for Savannah, as she recalls her mother’s deep attachment to it. “I think she always stayed in the house because I think she still felt my father there, all our memories,” she shared, her voice cracking with emotion.

Savannah also expressed guilt over whether her fame contributed to her mother’s abduction. “I hope not,” she said tearfully. “Honestly, we don’t know anything. I don’t know that it’s because she’s my mom and somebody thought, ‘Oh, that lady has money.’”

“I’m so sorry, Mommy. I’m sorry to my sister and my brother, my kids and my nephew,” she sobbed. “If it is me, I’m so sorry.”

The pain is raw, and the questions are endless, but Savannah and her family are holding on to hope, desperate for answers. As the investigation continues, the Guthrie family’s love for Nancy remains a powerful force in this heartbreaking story.
