Craig Melvin praises Hoda Kotb for Today help after Megyn Kelly slammed host
Craig Melvin publicly praised his Today Show co-host Hoda Kotb for stepping in during Savannah Guthrie’s absence, which followed the abduction of Guthrie’s mother, Nancy.
Kotb, who had stepped away from full-time hosting earlier in 2025, returned to fill in daily over the past two months.
Melvin acknowledged her commitment, noting that she balanced her responsibilities as a single mother while supporting Guthrie during a difficult time.
Jenna Bush Hager also expressed appreciation, emphasizing that Kotb’s presence was essential to the team.
Kotb herself responded with gratitude, highlighting the show’s sense of family and celebrating Guthrie’s planned return on April 6.
However, her role in the coverage drew criticism from Megyn Kelly, who accused Kotb of being performative during Guthrie’s interview.
On her podcast, Kelly claimed Kotb appeared to “act” emotional, wiping away nonexistent tears, and argued that NBC used the segment as a promotional tool rather than a serious interview.
Kelly further criticized Kotb’s journalistic approach, pointing out that she failed to ask follow-up questions about key details, such as a propped-open door at Nancy Guthrie’s home.
She argued that Kotb’s handling lacked basic reporting standards and undermined the interview’s credibility.
The controversy unfolded against the backdrop of ongoing developments in Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, which has drawn comparisons to another high-profile case involving a missing Air Force general.
