“MARK CONSUELOS BREAKS DOWN AS HE RECALLS THE MOMENT HE’LL NEVER FORGET — WHEN HIS FATHER DID SOMETHING SO SMALL, YET IT SHATTERED HIS HEART.” On live television, Mark Consuelos suddenly paused mid-sentence, his voice trembling as he remembered a simple yet deeply loving gesture from his father. The entire studio fell silent as he struggled to hold back tears… because it wasn’t just a memory — it was proof of a father’s quiet, lifelong love for his son.

Mark Consuelos’ parents played a big role in shaping his life.

The Live with Kelly and Mark co-host was born in March 1971 to his mom and dad, Camilla and Saul Consuelos, both of whom have had an active role in their kids’ and grandkids’ lives.

During the April 6 broadcast of Live with Kelly and Mark, Consuelos shared that his father “passed away peacefully” on March 23, following a long illness. His wife and co-host, Kelly Ripa, called her father-in-law “the greatest person” she’s ever known.

“I can honestly say I will miss him every day for the rest of my life, as I know you will, as our children will,” Ripa added. “He really is so symbolic of everything you are.”

Here’s everything to know about Mark Consuelos’ parents.

Saul immigrated from Mexico to the United States in his early teens, Consuelos said on Live with Kelly and Mark.

“He served his country for 30 years,” Consuelos shared of his father. “Ended up at Special Operations Command in Tampa. This young kid from Mexico just got his education from the navy. Was always going to school. Was brilliant. Got his Masters while I was a kid.”

Meanwhile, Camilla is Italian and raised her kids in her home country for some time. Ripa shared on-air in July 2019 that she and their kids had visited Consuelos’ childhood home in Southern Italy.

Ripa shared on Live with Kelly and Mark that Saul was “very involved” in their family life over the years.

“A lot of times you’d be away working and we would take the show on the road and your dad would come on remotes to take care of the kids so I could go to work,” she said to Consuelos.

Ripa has also spoken about her close relationship with Consuelos’ mom, writing on Instagram in September 2020 that she felt “lucky to call [her] my mother in law.”

Consuelos’ sister, Adriana Consuelos, has also posted about her close bond with her parents, from calling her mom “integral in the raising of her grandchildren” to deeming her dad her “hero.”

In October 2025, Adriana shared a photo of both Camilla and Saul posing with several of their kids and grandchildren, captioned, “Celebrating Nonno and Nonna. We love you so. ♥️.”

Saul died on March 23, 2026, Consuelos announced on-air two weeks later.

Consuelos shared on Live with Kelly and Mark that he had the chance to say goodbye to his dad while in rehearsals for his Broadway play, Fallen Angels. He called the production a “welcomed distraction” during a difficult time, adding that he “knew [he] had to keep going.”

“I’ve had such a good time doing [the play]. And I know he’s there watching and he’s able to be part of that,” Consuelos added.

He also noted that the Consuelos family is now focused on supporting Camilla, and jokingly suggested she start a Friday cooking segment on the show in an effort to get her to move to New York.

Consuelos “learned so much” from his dad

During the April 6 broadcast of Live with Kelly and Mark, Consuelos reflected on the many lessons he learned from his dad over the years.

“It’s funny, I used to make a joke about my dad — if you asked him what time it was, he would tell you how to build a watch,” the actor said. “There were a lot of lectures, a lot of lectures and I learned so much.”

Consuelos added, “If he was fixing something in the house, he’d make me watch and do it. And I didn’t know at the time why he was doing that. But now at the house, I’m able to do at least half of the stuff that he did. I learned the most by just watching him.”
