Nigel Farage has vowed to stop Channel small boat crossings âwithin the first few monthsâ of a Reform government. He stated failure would make the public âlose all trust in usâ. This promise aims to halt the crisis quickly.
Farage said taking Britain out of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) is key. This move would stop the âbillions of pounds being spent every year on housing young menâ who cross the Channel. He indicated this would happen much faster than previously thought.
The Reform UK leader promised to begin moves to âstop the boatsâ within 100 days of taking power before the last general election. He now insists it must be done âwithin the first few months.â Farage stated the public has âlost trust in everybody elseâ on this issue.
Farage also referenced US deportation policies. He said Reform UK would follow an American president when deporting those in the country illegally. He noted that âObama deported more illegal immigrants than Donald Trump so far has managed to do.â
He described a ânice wayâ to deport illegal residents. This involves offering a plane ticket and âa little bit of cash to resettle somewhere else.â Farage believes âthe vast majority of peopleâ would accept this offer.
The Conservatives have also pledged to leave the ECHR. However, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and his Attorney General Lord Hermer are âstaunch defendersâ of the treaty. This sets up a clear battleground over immigration policy.
Farage acknowledged a âshort-term costâ to implementing Reformâs pledges. He said it âhas to be doneâ because âthe public demand it.â He accused previous governments of letting down the public with âelection promise after election promise.â The current Labour government offers no clear plan to stop the boats.
âSmall boat crossings must be stopped âwithin the first few monthsâ of a Reform government âotherwise the public will lose all trust in usââ â Nigel Farage, Reform UK leader
âThere are billions of pounds being spent every year on housing young men that come across the English Channel , and that, of course, would come to a stop very quickly by leaving the ECHRâ â Nigel Farage, Reform UK leader
âWe have we have to do it more quickly. It will have to be done within the first few months, otherwise the public will lose all trust in us as theyâve lost trust in everybody else.â â Nigel Farage, Reform UK leader
âWhen it comes to deportations of those in the country illegally , there is an American president that weâre going to follow, youâre absolutely right.â â Nigel Farage, Reform UK leader
âObama deported more illegal immigrants than Donald Trump so far has managed to do ⌠without screaming and shouting.â â Nigel Farage, Reform UK leader
âYou say, look, youâre here illegally, we can do this the nice way, or the less nice way. The nice way is that you leave, youâre given a plane ticket, youâre given a little bit of cash to resettle somewhere else, and the vast majority of people say, hands up, thatâs what weâll do.â â Nigel Farage, Reform UK leader
âIf thereâs a short-term cost to that, thereâs a short-term cost to that â but it has to be done. The public the public demand it. Theyâve been let down on this, in election promise after election promise.â â Nigel Farage, Reform UK leader
